HUMAN FACTORS AND DECISION MAKING
Human Factors Fundamentals
Human Factors Fundamentals is a one day seminar which provides an introduction to Human Factors for mountain professionals.
This includes non-technical skills, decision making and use of the CASM Human Factors Tool.
These workshops meet the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) for the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI) and the British Mountain Guides (BMG).
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Summer or winter, activities in the mountains are delivered by people. Professionals who make sure that things go well the vast majority of the time, even when faced with changeable weather and conditions. Competency and experience aside the mountains remain a potentially risky place to work, and Mountain Professionals have an essential role to play when it comes to enhancing safety and training others.
This seminar is aimed at Mountain Professionals who would like to integrate Non-technical Skills into their daily work. These are the social and cognitive skills that we use alongside our technical mountaineering skills for optimum performance. Topics such as situational awareness, decision-making, leadership, teamwork, communication, and task management all of which also complement and add depth to the Mountain Training leadership and decision-making model.
We will look at some of these skills around technical tasks that we will be familiar with in our work. In addition, we will also explore the concept of Threat and Error Management (TEM) and how this may be used to support decision making in the outdoor environment.
