Mountain Assurance Ltd is owned and run by James Thacker. Our mountain guiding and instructional services are based on broad skills and worldwide experience.

Most importantly we use our skills and experience to help our clients achieve their aspirations and full potential.

We specialise in tailored instruction and guiding which are matched to individual requirements. Recent guiding and advisory projects include:

#AssuredExperiences – An ascent of Les Droites (4000m) with Chris Bedford, marking the end of his pursuit to climb all of the major 4000m peaks in the European Alps.

#AssuredExpertise – Safety cover for winter snow photography and film shoot with Superdry Plc. Risk Assessment, Method Statements and on location support for athletes and staff in Hintertux, Austria.

#AssuredTraining – Alpine skills training for The Alpine Club Aspirants Meet held in Saas Grund, including crevasse rescue and moving together on alpine ridge terrain. These two days of concentrated training acted as a spring board for the participants own independent alpinism over a further two weeks.

What People Say

One of the trickiest aspects of Les Droites was the approach across a highly crevassed glacier. James found a safe and superbly efficient line, in the dark. Reaching the top in good time, this was a truly memorable way to climb my final 4000er.

Chris Bedford

James acted as one of the guides working on essential alpine skills on the 2019 Alpine Club Aspirant meet in Saas Grund.

He is thoughtful and thorough, and is a gifted communicator, which was a big inspiration for our new members. Thanks!
