Mountain Assurance Ltd is owned and run by James Thacker. Our mountain guiding and instructional services are based on broad skills and worldwide experience.
Most importantly we use our skills and experience to help our clients achieve their aspirations and full potential.
We specialise in tailored instruction and guiding which are matched to individual requirements. Recent guiding and advisory projects include:
#AssuredExperiences – An ascent of Les Droites (4000m) with Chris Bedford, marking the end of his pursuit to climb all of the major 4000m peaks in the European Alps.
#AssuredExpertise – Safety cover for winter snow photography and film shoot with Superdry Plc. Risk Assessment, Method Statements and on location support for athletes and staff in Hintertux, Austria.
#AssuredTraining – Alpine skills training for The Alpine Club Aspirants Meet held in Saas Grund, including crevasse rescue and moving together on alpine ridge terrain. These two days of concentrated training acted as a spring board for the participants own independent alpinism over a further two weeks.

About James Thacker
Mountain Assurance Ltd was founded by James Thacker in 2017. James is an IFMGA Mountain Guide and member of the British Association of Mountain Guides (BMG). In addition, James is also a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (WMCI), which was formerly known as the Mountaineering Instructors Certificate or simply the “MIC”.
Having worked in Outdoor Education, as a self employed Mountaineering Instructor and full time IFMGA Mountain Guide, James brings broad and in depth experience to current projects.
In recent years, James has also been involved in the training of leaders and instructors in the UK as well as contributing to the wider agenda of mountain safety and public engagement via the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) and the Chris Walker Memorial Trust (CWMT).
Being based in both Kingussie, Inverness-shire and Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France, allows us to explore the best that both Scotland and the alps has to offer. Both these areas provide ample opportunity for work and play, particularly for James’ children’s own assured experiences.
